- Seven points from their last 12. Despite losing 2-1 away to D. Alaves in their last match, those points have turned around Valencia CF's LaLiga form. Mestalla has become an impregnable fortress where Athletic Club and Real Madrid both crashed to recent defeats.
- Valencia have fond memories of the clash between the two teams earlier in the season. They ran out 2-1 winners at Butarque for what was their first away win of the campaign. Now, with five points separating them, both sides will be looking to climb away from the drop zone and avoid a relegation battle.
CD Leganes (16th, 21 pts):
- A lifeline. CD Leganes's 4-0 win over RC Deportivo last weekend has given the Madrid club some breathing space after more than three months without a single win. Their last three points had come against CA Osasuna back on 21st November.
- Leganes boss, Asier Garitano, said that his players were in a buoyant mood following last weekend's win: "The team are pleased after the win over Deportivo, a win that we needed." He also commented on what his players had to do now: "The idea is to carry on what we're doing. We're ready to take on an in-form Valencia side."
