UD Las Palmas won the game at the Riazor stadium on the 22nd matchday of the Liga Adelante season. The game was notable for the return of Juan Carlos Valerón to the fans he shared 13 seasons with in the Galician team and the departure of Augusto César Lendoiro, President of RC Deportivo de La Coruña.
Although Fernando Vázquez's team went ahead through a penalty by Luis Fernández in the first ten minutes, the home team managed to equalise just four minutes later. It came from another penalty, converted by Nauzet Alemán, which spurred on Sergio Lobera's men and made the game more competitive. From this point onwards both teams sat back and slowed tempo of the game until half-time.
In the second half, after several spurned chances from Deportivo, a goal from Aythami Artiles decided the encounter. The central defender brought the ball under his spell in the area after a great team move and sent it into the back of the net. The Galician team watched as more than just the three points slipped from their grasp. The defeat cost them the leadership of the Liga Adelante, much to the delight of Real Sporting de Gijón, and catapulted Las Palmas into the top end of the table.
