Las Palmas add another victory to their pre-season haul

Having defeated CS Maritimo in their first match of the competition, the Gran Canaria outfit were crowned champions of the 31st edition of the Maspalomas International Tournament with a second win in three days. Michel Macedo's first-half strike, scored from the tightest of angles following Jonathan Viera's excellent pass, was enough to put Italians Cagliari to the sword.

The boys from Bilbao suffered their first defeat of the pre-season in their fifth tune-up game of the summer, in spite of the return to action of key figures such as Aritz Aduriz, Oscar de Marcos, Raul Garcia and Mikel San Jose. Goalkeeper Iago Herrerin pulled off a string of noteworthy saves before eventually being beaten by Shane Long's effort on the stroke of half-time. Although Athletic kept battling throughout the second half, the English side were able to hang on to their lead.
