Alfredo Lorenzo, LaLiga's integrity and security director, and Pedro Varas, LaLiga's integrity project manager, visited the UEFA headquarters on Monday for a meeting with Emilio Garcia Silvero, the head of UEFA's disciplinary and integrity unit, and Graham Peaker, the intelligence coordinator at European football's governing body. The aim of this working session was to exchange information on the subject of security and integrity.
The LaLiga representatives outlined the work the organisation carries out and the procedures it applies to safeguard the integrity of Spanish competitions, which can be divided into three main categories: the prevention, monitoring and investigation of activities potentially linked to the manipulation of the outcome of LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3 fixtures. UEFA has been employing said control and monitoring mechanisms both in its official competitions and throughout its affiliated national federations since 2009. During the course of the meeting, the UEFA delegates commended LaLiga's efforts in the fight against match-fixing and the manipulation of results.
During the meeting, LaLiga was granted access to details concerning the latest decisions made by UEFA's disciplinary bodies on cases involving match-fixing. The two institutions discussed the possibility of joining forces on initiatives to combat match-fixing, in a move which will enable them to exchange information and work together to eradicate fraud from the game.
