LaLiga Santander is the most competitive league in Europe

Although Real Madrid have a game in hand, just two points separate the first and third spots in Spain's top tier, something unheard of in the rest of the big five European leagues.

LaLiga Santander has become synonymous with competitiveness. In addition to great goals and fantastic football, we are also being treated to no end of excitement in every match, and this is reflected in the league standings.

With 18 games played, and with Real Madrid still to play their match against Valencia CF after it was postponed due to Club World Cup commitments, just two points separate the first and third spots. This situation is unheard of at this stage of proceedings in the rest of Europe, making LaLiga Santander the most competitive and thrilling league on the continent.

In the Premier League, leaders Chelsea FC are seven points clear of the chasers in second and third. The gap in the Bundesliga is even greater, with FC Bayern Munich three points ahead of second and nine above third place. All of these points differences are greater than those at the summit of LaLiga Santander at this stage of the season, guaranteeing us that the excitement will continue right down to the wire.

In France's Ligue 1, there are three points between table-toppers AS Monaco and PSG in third. In Serie A, Juventus FC, who also have a game in hand over their rivals, are a single point ahead of AS Roma in second and hold a four-point advantage over SSC Napoli in fourth.

After the game at the Sanchez Pizjuanthere are now just two points between Madrid (40), Sevilla FC (39) and FC Barcelona (38), meaning nothing is decided and promising us a scintillating run-in as we wait to see what the coming matchdays hold in store.
