The pulsating action at Real Sociedad's home of Anoeta provided a fitting finale to the first LaLiga Santander Experience weekend of the 2016/17 season. This project, which seeks to bring the Spanish top flight closer to fans all over the globe, kicked off its second edition in style in San Sebastian and was capped by the match between Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona, which finished 1-1.
A total of 10 lucky winners of competitions staged by official international broadcasters DAZN (Perform) in Germany and Sky Mexico savoured soaking up the rich culture and fantastic footballing atmosphere in the Basque city and found out what it's like to experience the best league in the world in the flesh. Both of these rights-holding broadcasters air LaLiga games every week and on this occasion, eight viewers and two journalists swapped following their favourite LaLiga Santander stars on television for enjoying the entertainment from the stands of one of the most historic stadiums in Spain.
The aim of this initiative is to take Spanish football to all corners of the planet and boost LaLiga's visibility worldwide. To this end, both Sky Mexico and DAZN (Perform) served up extensive coverage of the customers' escapades, both in their programming and on social media. They showed footage and posted images of the participants touring Anoeta; sightseeing in San Sebastian; warming up for the match with a local supporters' club; seeing Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar up-close; and meeting Real Sociedad players such as Carlos Vela, Geronimo Rulli and club captain Xabi Prieto – all accompanied by the hashtag #LaLigaSantanderExperience.
Besides increasing LaLiga's profile in Mexico and Germany, the international broadcasters gave their audience a different angle on the best competition on the planet and made 10 customers' dreams come true courtesy of a trip that they'll never forget. The thrilling draw at a buzzing Anoeta was the icing on the cake of an adventure that will be replicated in January, when the next instalments of the LaLiga Santander Experience take place.
