Alfredo Lorenzo, LaLiga's director of integrity and security, and Pedro Varas, the organisation's integrity project manager, today met with Tjeerd Veenstra, chairman of the Dutch Football Federation's (KNVB) Integrity Unit, in a session held to share knowledge about LaLiga's efforts in the field of integrity.
During his visit to Spain, Veenstra was offered an insight into LaLiga's working practices, including its procedures on prevention and monitoring, as well as the action that is typically taken as a result of the investigations led by its integrity and security department.
The KNVB's integrity chief expressed particular interest in the collaboration agreement between LaLiga and the Spanish security forces, which seeks to eradicate violence and troublesome supporter groups and manage stadium security.
Lorenzo gave Veenstra a detailed run-through of the workings of the sophisticated real-time betting monitoring system employed by LaLiga, the data from which is made available to the National Police if anything suspicious is identified. Veenstra welcomed the lowdown he was given on this and on the concerted efforts LaLiga has been making to tackle match-fixing in both LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3 for several years.
All in all, it was a highly productive meeting in which a wealth of information was exchanged between the two institutions. It lays the groundwork for possible future collaboration on establishing common procedures to follow in order to combat the manipulation of results in football.
