The 23rd round of LaLiga Santander fixtures served up no shortage of great goals, sublime shimmies and enthralling excitement as the division's aces staked their claims for a place in the matchday's LaLiga Fantasy MARCA starting XI. With the on-field action all done and dusted, it's now time to take stock and reveal the stars who made the cut in a lineup that's positively bursting with talent.
Variety is certainly the spice of life when it comes to this particular team, with the following eight clubs contributing players to what's a rather formidable-looking side: Valencia CF, D.Alaves, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, Villarreal CF, Real Madrid, Sevilla FC and RC Celta. However, if there's one team that stands out above the rest it is Alaves, with three of their squad making the grade, including Player of the Matchday Manu Garcia.
Valencia's Diego Alves is the man in the middle of the goalmouth in the latest Best XI, after playing a key role in his side's 2-0 victory over Athletic Club, which saw Los Che record back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this term.
Basque outfit Alaves supply half of the back four in the shape of Zouhair Feddal, who was the top-performing defender of the matchday with 17 points, and Victor Laguardia (13). They are accompanied by Valencia centre-back Eliaquim Mangala and Villarreal full-back Jaume Costa.
Mauricio Pellegrino's team also have pride of place in midfield. Manu Garcia's reward for a superb performance in the 1-0 victory over Deportivo, in which he scored the only goal from the penalty spot and picked up 17 points, is the Player of the Matchday crown. Slotting in alongside him are Real Madrid playmaker Isco (13) and Celta schemer Jozabed (12).
No fewer than five goals and two assists were notched up by our Best XI front three. Atletico attacker Kevin Gameiro netted a match-winning hat-trick against R. Sporting and also amassed 17 points. Lionel Messi was similarly decisive for Barça against CD Leganes, bagging both of the Catalans' goals in their dramatic 2-1 triumph, while Stevan Jovetic set up each of Sevilla's strikes in their 2-0 win over SD Eibar.
