Following a weekend of action bursting with excitement, surprises and fine individual displays, it's now time to take stock and reveal the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Matchday 12 Best XI.
R. Betis triumph over UD Las Palmas was one of this weekend's standout results and their impressive showing sees three verdiblancos players take their places in a lineup in which Betis are the best-represented club. However, the Player of the Matchday accolade goes to Rober Ibañez, whose brace handed CD Leganes a 2-0 victory over CA Osasuna, in a performance which earned him 21 points. That tally was enough to send the on-loan Valencia CF winger top of the pile, just ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose derby-day exploits also saw him collect 21 points.
The undisputed kingpin between the sticks in the latest round of fixtures was Malaga CF's Carlos Kameni, who produced a sensational display to keep FC Barcelona at bay and chalk up 14 points. Ahead of him is a five-man defence made up of Aissa Mandi (17 points), who bagged the winner for Real Betis against UD Las Palmas; his teamate Bruno (17); Iñigo Martinez (15), who was also on target for Real Sociedad against R. Sporting; Miguel Torres (14), another pivotal performer in Malaga's stirring rearguard action against the champions; and Raphael Varane (16), who helped keep things tight for Madrid and contributed going forward against Diego Simeone's men.
Meanwhile, Player of the Matchday Ibañez tops the bill in this week's Best XI midfield, where he is joined by Betis veteran Joaquin and Granada CF anchorman Mehdi Carcela (both 12 points), as well as Athletic Club star Raul Garcia (13).
Last but not least, leading the line on his own on this occasion is Cristiano Ronaldo, who fired his Los Blancos side to glory against Atletico at the Calderon. His hat-trick of goals – one a free-kick, one a penalty and the other a close-range finish to culminate a lightning counter-attack – saw him pick up 21 points, as many as anyone else.
