LaLiga reigned in Europe once again. Four players who ply their trade in the Spanish league were chosen to be in the 'Official team of the Tournament at UEFA EURO 2016' which was chosen by UEFA's 13-strong panel of technical observers.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid/Portugal), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid/France), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid/Germany) and Pepe (Real Madrid/Portugal) were valued for their contributions at the tournament. Griezmann finished with the Golden Boot as top scorer with six goals and two assists to his name, and was also named Tournament MVP.
It was the third consecutive European Championship where a LaLiga player walked away with the title of Player of the Tournament. Xavi won the award at UEFA EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, while his then FC Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta took the award four years later (2012) in Poland and Ukraine.
'Grizi' wasn't the only LaLiga player to pick up an MVP award across the tournament. Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Gareth Bale, Griezmann (2) and Pepe won individual match awards in France.
Alongisde MVP Griezmann in the 4-2-3-1 formation Team of the Tournament were Rui Patricio (Portugal) in goals, Rafael Guerreiro (Portugal), Jerome Boateng (Germany) and Joshua Kimmich (Germany) with Pepe in defence. Joe Allen (Wales) joined Toni Kroos in central midfield. Dimitri Payet (France) Aaron Ramsey (Wales) and Griezmann formed a line of three behind striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
