LaLiga and the Konka Group have reached an agreement through which the Chinese firm and Spanish football's organising body will work together over the course of the next two years. In attendance at the ceremony held today in Shenzhen to present the link-up were Sergi Torrents, LaLiga's country manager for China, and David Albelda, a former Valencia CF midfielder and current LaLiga ambassador.
In reference to the partnership, Torrents noted: "This is a highly significant agreement for LaLiga, with a company of Konka's standing making a commitment to come on board. China is a very strategically important market for LaLiga and it's a country in which the game is clearly on the up. This is why it's key that we continue to make progress, so as to enable LaLiga to position itself where it truly belongs. We're very grateful to Konka for committing themselves for the next two years."
For his part, Albelda sought to highlight the important role that football is assuming throughout the Asian nation: "China is a country in which the interest in the game is becoming really big. This growth has been taking place for a number of years now, but it's really over the last two or three years that Chinese clubs have started to sign top-calibre players, some of whom even leave major European clubs to come here. It's vital that LaLiga continues to expand in a market like this."
