Real Valladolid pocketed three points against RC Celta de Vigo in the match that closed out matchday 16 of the Liga BBVA. The victory means that Juan Ignacio Martínez's men are out of the relegation zone and they now have the same number of points as their opponent.
Both teams made their intentions clear from the start. Valladolid took the initiative early on, frequently testing the reflexes of an on-form Yoel Rodríguez, who managed the keep his goal safe for the first half. The only danger in the home team's box came through Charles Dias minutes from the break, but Diego Mariño kept his team level up to half-time.
After the restart, and after Charles received his marching orders, reducing Celta to ten men, Javi Guerra opened the scoring by slotting one past Yoel. Seven minutes later, the striker from Málaga caught Celta's keeper off-guard with a superb header. The Galicians tried to cut the deficit but they were unable to create chances and the points stayed in the Estadio José Zorrilla. Once more Javi Guerra, the star of the show, sealed the deal with his third goal of the evening after putting the finishing touches on an assist from Óscar in the dying minutes.
