Hugo Sánchez was presented as the latest LFP ambassador on Thursday. The former Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano striker will be the face of the LFP in North and South America.
The LFP president, Javier Tebas Medrano, led the ceremony as the Mexican was presented in his new role. "We are pleased to present Hugo Sánchez in his new role at the LFP. He was a player, an extraordinary striker; than a manager and now an ambassador. I am sure that in this new role he will just be as good. He will promote the Liga BBVA, a competition for everyone, in North and South America", Tebas stated.
The president also spoke about the intention to expand the LFP. "We have started a process of becoming more international. We have begun by consolidating the league’s status internationally, and the presence of someone like Hugo Sánchez will help use enormously with this objective".
In the ceremony, which saw Hugo put on the Liga BBVA jersey, the once world class striker thanked the LFP for the faith they have showed in him. "It is a new experience, but it won’t be a difficult task, because it’s easy to talk about the best league in the world. It’s an honour and a privilege for me to represent the Liga BBVA. I’ll carry out my duties with love and commitment. It will be a great and successful relationship. Thank you, Mr President", the five-time Liga BBVA top goal scorer declared.
Hugo also spoke about the huge following the Spanish league has in Mexico and the USA. "Spanish football is always keenly followed in Mexico, even more so when I played in Spain. Since then there has been a lot of interest in the Liga BBVA. All the matches are watched. It’s the same case in the USA".
The event concluded with Hugo answering questions from the members of the press and analysing the state of Spanish football.
