LUN 29.06.2015

April in Liga BBVA 2014/15 was the penultimate month of the competition, and it had six matchdays in which records continued to tumble. In total there were 60 games full of emotion and tension.

Highlights

In matchday 29, Real Madrid downed Getafe CF 9-1, their highest win since 1967/68 and the biggest win in the 2014/15 season. One of the stars of the show was forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international broke a personal record with five goals for his side for the first time ever.

Another goalscorer who lit up the matchday was Levante UD’s David Barral. The 31-year-old scored his second career hat trick, allowing him not only to reach another personal milestone, but to give his side three precious points as they downed UD Almería 1-4.

April was also the month in which Rayo Vallecano scored their 700th goal in Liga BBVA. It was Nicolás Ladislao 'Miku' who scored in injury time as Paco Jémez’s men downed Almería 2-0. This was also the Venezuelan’s first goal for the club.

Star of the month

For French forward Antoine Griezmann April was possibly his best of the season. The Atleti player scored in five of the six games played, and bagged a brace in three consecutive games versus Málaga, Deportivo and Elche. His eight goals this month helped his side assure a third placed finish in the league, and the Frenchman received the BBVA Prize for Liga BBVA Player of the Month having previously taken the honour in January.

Best coach

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti won the BBVA Prize for Liga BBVA Manager of the Month. The Madrid boss led his side to six wins from six, taking 18 points in total, scoring a stunning 24 goals, conceding only four.

Best goal

This belongs to Chory Castro. The Real Sociedad midfielder scored said strike against Deportivo in matchday 31 of Liga BBVA. The Uruguayan volleyed in from the left-hand side of the box to make it 2-1 to his side after 57 minutes. The game eventually finished 2-2.

Outstanding team

Real Madrid were the standout side in April. Ancelotti’s side were the only team who took six from six, and thus were the only side to take the full 18 points on offer. Also, as previously stated, they were able to score 24 goals on their way to these wins, doubling the likes of direct rivals Atlético Madrid (12) and bettering FC Barcelona (15) by almost 10.

Strange fact

In the six games player in April, Sevilla FC did not lose. Actually, Unai Emery’s side had not lost at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán since 22 February 2014. In what had been played of the 2014/15 campaign, the Andalusian side finished April with 17 games without defeat at home.

Revelation

For his youthful exuberance and performances in the 2014/15 campaign, Santi Mina is April’s revelation. The forward was the protagonist in matchday 31 when RC Celta played Rayo at Balaidos. The forward score four goals as his side won 6-1, becoming the youngest player in 80 years to score four in the same game aged just 19 years and 125 days.

Latin America also stands out in Liga BBVA

In his first season in Liga BBVA with Real Madrid, Mexico forward Javier Hernández 'Chicharito' scored his first goal at the Santiago Bernabéu on matchday 31 against Eibar, which his side won 3-0. The striker had scored previously for his side, but only got his first goal in front of the club’s fans in what would be his last home appearance.  It was a wait of 23 years for a Mexican to once again score for Madrid at the Bernabéu. This goal, plus the double he bagged against Celta helped ‘Chicharito’ end his stay in Spain with seven goals in Liga BBVA.
