Ferrán Corominas, more commonly known as 'Coro', is Elche CF's top goalscorer with four this season. The man from Girona signed for the club last season, scoring 12 fundamental goals in the side’s promotion push to Liga BBVA. After a long career with RCD Espanyol, he returns to what was his home for 10 years, and it will be the first time he ever plays at the Cornellà-El Prat for the away side.
The 31 year-old striker seems content with the Alicante side's form, saying, "the side are good, we're competing and giving our all in every game. In the last round of Liga BBVA we managed to secure a cushion of six points and we have to carry in as we are because there's a long way to go. Liga BBVA is very even, we are fighting with seven or eight sides and it will be hard right up until the end", said Coro.
And it appears that Elche's good run has two essential factors: Fran Escribá and the supporters. The player spoke of the Valencian manager with respect and admiration: "He is a serious person whilst working, but at the same time he's close to the players. Last year things went very well with him and it looks as if this year we’re on the same track. Here in Elche, people live for football, and everyone wanted a return to Liga BBVA. 25 years on we achieved it", said the number 11.
"Right now we are where we want to be. We are fighting for survival and we have a cushion of six points, so we are happy with the work we’re doing and hopefully that will continue until the end".
This Sunday the player will take part in one of the most emotional moments of the season. He returns to the Estadio Cornellà - El Prat, where he made his debut in 2003 in Liga BBVA, and he will go there for the first time as part of the away team. "It will be special because I’ve never been a visitor there, hopefully we can win, even though it will be a tough match".
For that, the forward will take on a rival he knows well and considers difficult to break down: "They have an in-form player in Sergio García, who is scoring a lot of goals and creating a lot of chances. They are dangerous from dead balls, will good strategies. We will try to take our chances and get the three points".
The previous meeting saw Elche come away with a 2-1 victory over the Catalans, Coro scoring both goals. The player said: "we will try to repeat the result from the first game". In addition to the win, he will be looking to add to his goal tally to help the side. "I am working on it, trying to score goals, make them and work for the side", said the Catalan striker.
