FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet each other this Sunday in 'El Clásico', the most hotly anticipated game in the Liga BBVA. Culés and merengues are the two top scoring teams in the Liga BBVA, with 78 and 77 goals respectively.
With both teams boasting a similar level of attacking prowess, Spanish football fans have become accustomed to seeing them score all types of goals.
Both teams score most of their goals inside the area. Barcelona have scored 72 goals in the box, while Madrid have hit 69. Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have scored the most goals in the area for their respective teams, with 28 each.
From outside the area, Barcelona have scored just four goals, while Madrid have scored seven. Messi and Ronaldo also lead their teams in this respect. The best free-kick taker is Messi, the Argentinian scoring two goals from set-pieces, while Real Madrid have only converted one direct free-kick all season, Gareth Bale the scorer.
Barcelona have scored more goals with their feet. Barca have netted 27 times with their left feet and 41 with the right, while Real Madrid have scored 22 and 39, respectively. As ever, Messi leads the way, scoring 18 goals with his left boot, while Gareth Bale has scored eight times with left; Neymar has scored 14 times with his right foot, Ronaldo 20.
However, Real Madrid lead the way in headed goals. Carlo Ancelotti's side have stuck 15 headers in the net, to Barcelona’s eight. Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way in this respect with five headers, while Messi has scored three times with his head.
Barcelona are also a more efficient team than Real Madrid when it comes to shooting. Luis Enrique’s side have taken 361 shots, 193 of which have hit the target. Their efficiency rate is 21.6% and they score a goal every 31.2 minutes. The Blancos have very similar numbers, but slightly worse than the culés. The Madridistas have taken 385 shots, of which 200 have hit the target. They score one of every five shots taken and find a goal every 31.6 minutes.
