Deportivo make the brighter start
The hosts made the brighter opening and looked to get their noses in front right from the first whistle in this crucial encounter. Their high-intensity start saw the Galicians carve out several clear-cut chances. Indeed, with the game just six minutes old, Vicente Guaita was called into action to produce a smart save to deny Luis Alberto. Further opportunities then fell the way of Lucas Perez and Federico Cartabia, but it was in fact Getafe CF who drew first blood.

The Getafe response
As the game wore on, the Azulones began to find their feet and grow in confidence. With 31 minutes on the clock, Pablo Sarabia had one of the clearest openings of the half, but his left-footed effort flashed wide of the target. Getafe's Alvaro Vazquez, who was a prominent figure in the first 45 minutes, did have the ball in the back of the net, but he saw his effort chalked off for offside.
Pedro Leon fires home
Despite a strong first-half showing from Deportivo, it was Getafe who took the lead, courtesy of a fine Pedro Leon finish. With just a couple of minutes of the first period remaining, the Geta captain produced an excellent strike from the edge of the area to send his side in one up at the break.
Borges sees red
Deportivo were reduced to 10 men on 65 minutes after their Costa Rican midfielder, Celso Borges, was shown a second yellow for a foul on Santiago Vergini. The sending-off meant that the Galicians had to shuffle things around with 25 minutes of the game remaining.
Getafe double their lead
In the closing stages, the visitors struck a second to put the result beyond any doubt. Just as Deportivo were pressing hard for an equaliser, a Getafe corner was stabbed home by Carlos Vigaray at the near post to double the visitors' advantage. Despite Deportivo's reluctance to give up on the game, it was Esnaider's troops who claimed a precious three points in their quest to avoid the drop.
