Gameiro double keeps Sevilla strong at home

Great Athletic start

Athletic Club started strongly at the Sanchez Pizjuan. The Basque side had the first clear chances in the match. After a couple of crosses where Sergio Rico had to intervene, Lekue had the best opportunity with a strike from outside the box which hit the woodwork.

Gameiro breaks deadlock
The home side responded and Unai Emery’s men looked to play a direct style to overcome the visitos. Vitolo played Kevin Gameiro through on a great run and he beat Aymeric Laporte to finish beyond Gorka Iraizoz.

Raul Garcia injury
Things got worse for Athletic a few minutes later when they lost Raul Garcia. The Navarran 
midfielder was one of their best performers but he injured his knee in a collision with Vitolo and had to be replaced by Eraso.

Gameiro penalty
In the second half, Athletic went in search for an equaliser but, when the Basques were having their best spell, Sevilla scored a second. Laporte was adjudged to have brought down Grzegorz Krychowiak in the box and the referee blew for a penalty. Gameiro converted from the spot for his ninth of the season 

Athletic pressure
Despite being two goals down, 'the lions' kept pressing forward to try and reduce the deficit. They had chances through Aritz Aduriz and Iñaki Williams but were unable to start a comeback.
