- The club was created on 15 December 2005 based on the San Jose Earthquakes. The team moved to Houston, and despite maintaining the same squad and coaching staff, the name changed and a new club was formed.
- During their first two years, the Houston Dynamo were crowned MLS champions on both occasions.
- Their kit comprises an orange shirt, white shorts and orange socks.
- Their archrivals are FC Dallas, their opponents in the Texas derby.
- The team mascot is an orange-haired fox called Dynamo Diesel. The club asked students from the Art Institute of Houston to submit their proposals, and the fans picked the mascot through an online poll.
