Valencia CF are committed to women. There can be no doubt about that, and the Spanish Federation of Women Directors, Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs (FEDEPE) has attested to the fact. This federation presented Lay Hoon Chan, the Valencia chairwoman, with the 2016 International FEDEPE Award this morning for the club's alliance with UN Women. The distinction was presented during an event presided over by Queen Letizia of Spain, which was also attended by the mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena.

Valencia CF have earned the award for their recognition of the role of women, particularly in the workplace. "When Valencia CF and UN Women decided to partner to promote gender equality we did not expect to receive so much attention, so much recognition, so much appreciation and so much understanding regarding a pioneering collaboration between an organisation which defends women's rights and a sport traditionally dominated by men and boys," assured the club's chairwoman, Lay Hoon Chan, "This is a unique opportunity to do things differently in order to solve a very ancient problem," added Valencia's top executive.
Valencia and UN Women have been fighting for gender quality since 2015. This alliance made Valencia "the first professional sports team in the world to become an ambassador for gender equality." The two organisations are working together to eradicate violence against women and girls, to provide education about gender equality, and to support the empowerment of women both locally and globally.
On 9 May this year, Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, and Pedro Malabia, the head of women's football at LaLiga, took part in the 'Women and Football' event for equality and women's rights organised by Valencia and UN Women. Valencia CF and women, a successful marriage.
