FC Barcelona wraps up a Saturday of great matches

The time keeps growing shorter before LaLiga raises the curtain on the upcoming season and more teams are finalizing their preparations with friendly matches and preseason tests.  Twenty friendlies were played Saturday on a day full of exciting tests as teams of the Liga Adelante and Liga BBVA returned to summer football action.

The spotlight match of the day was played by a pair of European heavyweights when FC Barcelona faced Manchester United FC in Santa Clara (California). In their second preseason game, the Barcelona team lost 3-1 to the English squad. The lone score by Rafinha Alcantara was not enough to overcome goals by Wayne Rooney, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj.

One of the big names of the day was Levante UD striker Nabil Ghilas, who scored twice in his team's 1-3 victory over PEC Zwolle.

Another high-scoring affair was the result in the match between the two newcomers to the Liga Adelante. Neither Gimnastic de Tarragona nor SD Huesca wanted to lose their preseason test and the squads tied at three goals apiece in another friendly.

In other action, Atletico Madrid went up against CD Numancia in the Memorial Jesus Gil friendly played in El Burgo de Osma in Soria and triumphed 2-0.

Valencia CF was also victorious over PSV Eindhoven (1-0) before heading off on the LFP World Challenge Tour that will take them to Germany next week.

But neither RC Celta or Sevilla FC won their matches in Germany today against FC Ingolstadt 04 and SV Werder Bremen, respectively. However, Villarreal CF turned the tables on a German squad at Emirates Stadium in London, where they defeated VfL Wolfsburg 1-2 in the Emirates Cup.
