The II LaLiga Promises International Tournament held in Barranquilla came to a close with the final between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC. The encounter was a repeat of the trophy decider in the previous LaLiga Promises event played in Vila-Real, but on this occasion it was los azulgranas who came away victorious after defeating the Andalusians 5-2.

The first half began with both sides in no mood to overcommit themselves in attack, but the chances started to come as the first half progressed. With seven minutes on the clock, Mamadou Saidou Bah had a great opportunity for FC Barcelona when one on one with Haylish Amaro, but the Sevilla goalkeeper produced an excellent stop to keep his effort out. And it would be los hispalenses who took the lead, Alberto Ulloa snapping up a parry from the keeper to make it 0-1 and ensure his team went in for half time in front.

Barça moved up a gear after the break and did not take long to find the equaliser, Alejandro Balde firing in a direct free-kick. The Catalans’ good second-half showing then continued as they made the most of defensive slips by Sevilla to surge 3-1 ahead courtesy of Arnau Fardós’ header and Saidou’s backheel, before Eric Vega headed in a corner at the far post to grab a fourth. The Andalusians managed to cut the gap with a goal from Ángel Mancheño, only for FC Barcelona to round off their triumph through Marc Pelaz, whose strike brought up a 5-2 final result that saw them crowned tournament winners.

Watching on from the directors’ box were several personalities such as Javier Tebas, president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, José Ramón De la Morena, president of the Fundaciòn el Larguero, and Barranquilla mayor Elsa Noguera, who were on hand for the post-match awards presentation ceremony. And both sets of players showed terrific sportsmanship with a guard of honour for their opponents as the teams picked up their trophies.
