CD Leganés vs. FC Barcelona

CD Leganes remain entrenched at the bottom of the LaLiga Santander table after following their only win of the season with two losses and a draw. They currently sit seven points adrift of safety and even in the early stages of the season they appear doomed to relegation. They have conceded 22 goals in their 13 games, second-worst in the competition behind only RC Celta and Espanyol, who join CD Leganes in the relegation positions. They welcome Spain’s most potent attack to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in FC Barcelona, who have scored 33 goals in LaLiga Santander this season, seven clear of second-best Villarreal. FC Barcelona bounced back from a shock defeat to Levante UD with a 4-1 thrashing of RC Celta to retain top spot, ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference. CD Leganes earned a shock 2-1 win in this fixture last year, the only time in their history they have beaten FC Barcelona.

Granada CF vs. Atlético de Madrid

The wheels have come off Granada CF’s fairy tale start to the season which saw them atop LaLiga Santander just a few weeks ago. They now find themselves in eighth after three-consecutive losses, all coming against teams in the top half. They sit three points back of the confirmed European places and will be desperate to keep pace with the top sides, but that task will get no easier as Atletico de Madrid come to town on matchday 14 who sit just one point behind league leaders FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. An exorbitant number of draws has held Atletico de Madrid back from holding a stronger position in LaLiga Santander but even despite their failure to turn opportunities into wins they still sit within striking range of top spot. Granada CF have never beaten nor earned a draw with Atletico de Madrid. They last met in LaLiga Santander in the 2016/17 season where Atletico de Madrid won 7-1 at home and 1-0 away.

Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad

Real Madrid, despite constant public scrutiny and a seemingly consistent disconnect between manager, players, board and fans, find themselves tied with FC Barcelona at the top of LaLiga Santander with just one loss through their opening 12 games. Since their first loss of the season to RCD Mallorca they’ve put five past CD Leganes and four past SD Eibar to consolidate their place in the top two, with the re-scheduled December 18 El Clasico beginning to appear on the horizon. They host Real Sociedad on matchday 14 who sit one point outside of the top four after a hugely impressive beginning to their campaign. Surprisingly their away form has been stronger than their home form, winning four away compared to three at home, which bodes well for their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Sociedad stunned Real Madrid last season by sweeping their matchup, winning both fixtures. Their 2-0 win in Madrid was arguably their best performance of the season.

R. Valladolid CF vs. Sevilla FC

Two wins and two losses in their past four sees R. Valladolid both failing to gain ground on the top half but still managing to distance themselves from the sides fighting to avoid relegation. Exceedingly erratic performances has seen them beat SD Eibar 2-0, lose 5-1 to FC Barcelona, thrash RCD Mallorca 3-0 then lose 3-0 to D. Alaves in consecutive weeks. That volatility could prove problematic against a very much in-form Sevilla FC side who are undefeated in their past five games and sitting fourth, just one point behind league leaders FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Sevilla FC have managed to deal with every challenge LaLiga Santander has thrown at them so far this season outside of the top two, who have handed them two of their three losses, and they will feel confident of continuing that form against a side that hasn’t beaten them since 2012. Sevilla FC won both meetings last season and have won three-consecutive matches against R. Valladolid by an aggregate score line of 7-1.
