Benasque 0-10 SD Huesca
The pre-season started with a veritable goal-fest, at least for Huesca, who produced a 10-0 away win against Benasque with one man standing out from the crowd: Boris Cmiljanic. The Montenegrin player netted a total of five goals. Huesca went in for the interval four goals to the good. The other six came in the second half, proving that the team are firing on all cylinders. Alija Krnic, with a brace, Alex, Borja Lazaro and Jair were the other scorers.
Tolosa CF 0-5 Real Sociedad
The matchday featured plenty of high-scoring games. After Huesca had got the ball rolling, Real Sociedad followed suit against Tolosa. The Basque team passed their first test of the season with flying colours. "The objective is to gradually find our form," assured Joseba Zaldua at the end of the match. They certainly managed to do that, comfortably beating Tolosa thanks to a double by Jonathas and goals from Esteban Granero, Juanmi and Ruben Pardo.
Real Irun 0-0 D. Alaves
The Basque derby was the tightest game of the matchday. The clash ended in a goalless draw, but Alaves produced a very positive display. There were plenty of chances, but solid performances by both back lines prevented the ball from finding the back of the net during the 90 minutes. Asier Benit had Alaves's final chance to break the deadlock, but the keeper managed to save his effort and the game ended all square.
Granada CF 6-0 Mar Menor
The Andalusian outfit also doled out a drubbing, with Mar Menor on the receiving end. Rene Krhin, Sergi Guardiola, Darwin Machis, Isaac Cuenca and David Barral, with a brace, were the men who managed to find the back of the net. This was the first test for Granada and for their manager, Paco Jemez, and they got off to a flying start, producing an impressive display out on the pitch and giving every indication that they will continue to improve as the start of the season approaches.
Negreira 1-10 RC Deportivo
Deportivo destroyed Negreira in their first outing of the pre-season, with Celso Borges, Bruno Gama, Luis Fernandez (2), Lucas Perez (3) and Oriol Riera (3) getting the goals. The Galician outfit headed by Gaizka Garitano were a cut above their opponents and proved highly effective at taking their chances, with their strikers demonstrating that they are on scintillating form.
RC Celta 1-2 CD Lugo
One of the most exciting matches was played out between Celta and Lugo. The home team took the ascendency early on with a goal by Brais Mendez in the 3rd minute. Neither team managed to seize control as the minutes ticked by with the score at 1-0. However, Lugo went on to stage a comeback in the second half. Ignasi Miquel headed the visitors level and Pita grabbed the winner, also from a corner.
Villarreal CF 1-0 Hospitalet
Villarreal managed to come out on top in their first game of the pre-season, but they did not find things easy. The only goal of the game came just before the final whistle. Alfonso Pedraza fired home with 88 minutes played as Villarreal set about greasing the wheels ahead of the 2016/17 season.
Algeciras 0-4 Malaga CF
Malaga, with Juande Ramos manning the dugout for the first time, produced a comfortable win over Algeciras in their first pre-season match. The visitors took the lead on 23 minutes with a goal from En-Nesyri, who went on to net another before the break. In the second half, Charles and Michael Santos finished things off, making it 4-0 to the visitors at the final whistle.
Rayo Vallecano 3-0 AD Alcorcon
Rayo Vallecano ran out winners in the Madrid derby, giving a very good account of themselves in the process. Alex Moreno opened the scoring, before Adrian Embarba and Jonni Montiel further extended their advantage to give Rayo their first win of the pre-season.
