Eibar win but fail to obtain their target

SD Eibar said goodbye to the Liga BBVA with a resounding 3-0 win against Córdoba CF on matchday 38 of the Liga BBVA. Mikel Arruabarrena, Raúl Navas and Ander Capa got the goals at Ipurua in a great first half from their side.

Eibar offered a great show of attacking prowess in the first half. After four intense minutes from Córdoba, the home team began their attacking display. Mikel Arruabarrena got things started with a great header in the 6’, before Raúl Navas scored in the same way for Eibar’s second. The two goal advantage offered a comfortable lead for Gaizka Garitano’s men and calmed them down. Eleven minutes before the break, they killed off the game through Ander Capa. The midfielder stole the ball in midfield and went on to score with a shot close to the post of Mikel Saizar’s goal to the delight of Ipurua. 

With the game controlled, Eibar set about securing the result as their chance of survival rested on getting the three points. Córdoba meanwhile tried to create danger by moving up the pitch, but were unable to create clear chances on Xabi Irureta’s goal. The minutes ticked on under those circumstances, and the home side sealed their win, although it was not worth much, as the result of their direct rivals left them without the chance of staying in the Liga BBVA next season.
