SD Eibar earned a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid Castilla on matchday 35 of the Liga Adelante. It was a very important victory for Gaizka Garitano’s side that, pending Sunday's results, leaves them within two points of the leaders, RC Deportivo de La Coruña.
Castilla started more brightly and threatened from the outset led by Willian José. But just as the home side were at their best, Ander Capa, after a pass from Mikel Arruabarrena, shot from in front of the box and got past Fernando Pacheco, giving the Basque team the lead. After the goal, the Whites' reserves continued to control the game and penetrate their opponents' area, but the armeros were able to defend their one-goal lead until half time.
There was more of the same in the second half. Lucas Vázquez and Diego Llorente looked for the equaliser, but goalkeeper Xabi Irureta stood firm and prevented them from scoring at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium. It was a bitter defeat for Manolo Díaz’s side, who are unable to climb out of the relegation zone in the Liga Adelante.
