SD Eibar made the most of RC Deportivo de La Coruña's 2-1 defeat in Soria against CD Numancia to move into the first place in the Liga Adelante after beating Deportivo Alavés in an attractive Basque derby at the Ipurua Stadium. Three points that take them to the top of the Liga Adelante table.
Eibar went into the game focused, very aware that they could earn promotion to the Liga BBVA. As the minutes went by they gradually found their rhythm, with Yuri Berchiche hitting a long shot in an attempt to unsettle Iván Crespo. The set pieces were another big threat as they have been all season for Gaizka Garitano's men, but still they were unable to take the lead in this tight game.
After the break, Galician midfielder Jota Peleteiro finally managed it. A tremendous left-footed strike from outside the box skimmed past Crespo’s left post to open the scoring at the Ipurua. Alavés then stretched themselves looking for the equaliser. For the last five minutes of the encounter the home side played with ten men after defender Raúl García was sent off, but Alavés, despite trying persistently, were unable to beat Xavier Iruretagoiena, who was pivotal in the final moments.
