The Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) has selected Dubai to host the 2020 EXPO. The United Arab Emirate capital beat cities like Sao Paulo (Brazil), Izmir (Turkey) and Yekaterinburg (Russia) in the voting.
The Liga de Fútbol Profesional lent its support to Dubai’s candidacy during the month of September, with the LFP president Javier Tebas visiting His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed, the chairman of the Higher Committee on Hosting of the 2020 World Expo in Dubai.
Placards supporting the candidacy were displayed during Liga BBVA matches and teams like Sevilla and Granada wore the city’s logo on their jerseys. As well as that, Barcelona’s Andrés Iniesta showed his support via his official Twitter account.
This will be the first time the event has ever taken place in the Middle East.
