RC Deportivo took an important step towards safety after downing Levante UD 2-0 at the Riazor in matchday 37 of Liga BBVA. Goals from Alberto Lopo and Juanfran Moreno gave the Galician side the win to move them onto 34 points in 17th. Meanwhile, the side from Valencia secured their place in the division for next season despite losing on 36 points.
With patience and a cool head, Deportivo quickly took charge of the game. The side from Galicia dominated against Levante, and took the lead with their first effort on goal, as Lucas Pérez delivered a free kick that Alberto Lopo headed home to open the scoring. After the goal, the home team continued to dominate things, however they could not pull further ahead. Diogo Salomão, with a cross that evaded everyone was the closest they came to extending their lead, however the half ended 1-0.
After the break, Levante looked refreshed, however little by little Depor retook the initiative, and things followed a similar pattern of the first half. The Galician outfit created more danger as they sought a second, and Peréz and Juanfran had their clearest opportunities, and it was the latter who managed to finally seal the result 10 minutes from time. The points stay at the Riazor and Deportivo can breathe in the race for salvation.
