RC Deportivo saw off SD Eibar 2-0 in the first game of matchday 22 in the Liga BBVA. Thanks to goals from Lucas Pérez and Ivan Cavaleiro, both in the second half, the Galician outfit clinched their second straight victory to climb to a provisional position of eleventh; Eibar, meanwhile, remain in eighth.
Right from the first whistle, it was Deportivo who took control of the ball and enjoyed the clearest scoring opportunities. The hosts served up their first warning on eight minutes with a header from Celso Borges that went over the bar, before Juanfran Moreno had the best chance of the first half. The full-back fired a powerful shot from distance, but Xabi Irureta thwarted the attempt with an excellent save.
After the break, Deportivo did not take long to get their reward for their intensity and domination. With 52 minutes on the clock, a punched clearance by Irureta fell to the feet of Lucas Pérez, who did not think twice and put his side 1-0 up from the edge of the area. Although Eibar reacted and sought to turn the situation around, the home team settled the match courtesy of a goal from Cavaleiro after 79 minutes. The skilful Portuguese nipped in to steal Borja Ekiza’s backpass to the keeper, finishing into an empty net and sealing a 2-0 win.
