The top of the Liga Adelante table is getting crowded. To say RC Recreativo de Huelva was dominating the competition a few matches back would be an understatement, but its three matches without a win and its rivals' victories, particularly those of Galician outfits RC Deportivo de La Coruña and CD Lugo, have livened up the fight for the top spot.
Recre added another point to its haul this weekend with a much-needed draw for the Andalusian team after consecutive defeats in its previous two matches. And it did so against a Deportivo Alavés who were 3-1 down nine minutes from the final whistle. This result, together with wins from Deportivo and Lugo against RCD Mallorca and SD Ponferradina respectively, leaves Sergi Barjuan's pursuers breathing down his neck.
A little further back are Córdoba CF, a reborn Juan Carlos Valerón's UD Las Palmas (the player found the net twice in the Canary Islanders' win over CD Mirandés on Saturday),surprise package SD Eibar, who are now in sixth spot thanks to one of the biggest goal-fests of the competition (6-0 over Real Madrid Castilla) and CD Numancia.
And while the fight for the top spots is really heating up, the struggle to escape the relegation zone is certainly not short on excitement. Real Madrid Castilla and Hércules occupy the last two places in the table, but after them there are five teams with only a point between them: CE Sabadell CF, Deportivo Alavés, FC Barcelona B, CD Tenerife and Real Zaragoza.
