UD Las Palmas and Real Sporting de Gijón will go head-to-head in one of the Liga Adelante’s most highly anticipated games, in which the two teams will battle it out in the Estadio de Gran Canaria in the first of their two Liga BBVA promotion play-off matches.

After nine months of fierce competition between the Liga Adelante’s 22 teams, only four sides are still in the hunt for promotion to the Spanish topflight, a division that would see them pitted against the best players in Europe.

One year on from losing to UD Almería at this same stage of the season, the Canary Island outfit will be focusing all of its energy on clinching the chance to play in the Liga BBVA for the first time in twelve years. With that in mind the home team manager, Josico Moreno, is keeping his cards close to his chest: "This is a knock-out competition and mistakes are punished dearly. I think it will be decided in the second leg in El Molinón". Dani Castellano is the only man unavailable for the home side for this match.

Meanwhile, Abelardo Fernández included youth academy player Jony to his squad of 19 players before embarking for the island. The rojiblanco manager stated that the time to face "the decisive moment" has come, and also added that Sporting "must dictate the tempo" against the Yellows.

The Asturian outfit will be looking to make a return to the Liga BBVA after spending the last two years in the Liga Adelante. To do so, they will first need to get over the first hurdle when they take to Las Palmas’ stadium at 22:00 CET.

You can follow all the match details on La Liga TV.
