RC Deportivo La Coruña kicked off gameweek 21 in the Liga BBVA by beating Rayo Vallecano away from home thanks to a double from debutant Celso Borges. Alberto Bueno hit the only goal of the game for the hosts, cancelling out Borges' earlier effort in the opening 45 minutes.
This was a lively first half between the side from Madrid and the Galicians. The first player to go for goal was Rayo forward Léo Baptistão, whose powerful shot was stopped by Depor goalkeeper Fabricio. But as the game progressed Borges struck the first goal of the game, beating Rayo stopper Toño on the rebound. Despite going behind, Rayo kept faith in their usual attacking style of play and drew level through their top scorer Bueno. Paco Jémez’s side were also grateful to goalkeeper Toño for diving to save a powerful effort from JoséRodríguez and keep the score tied at the break.
The second half witnessed the best football of the game, with both teams creating plenty of chances. Fabricio again denied the hosts a goal while at the other end Depor were denied by the crossbar. Then the man of the match Borges struck again. Meanwhile, Rayo remain without a win at home since November and Depor climb up to 13th place in the table on 21 points, two fewer than Rayo.
