Luis Suárez and André Gomes had the best chances, however they were unable to take their opportunities. The Portuguese delighted the crowd as he led a counter-attack for the home side, but he was unable to find the back of the net after rounding the goalkeeper.
After the restart, both sides went up a gear and more chances arrive. In minute 54 Luis Suárez beat Diego Alves to the ball however his shot went narrowly wide. Valencia responded and Rodrigo thought he had scored before Gerard Piqué intervened.
