Real Betis have gone from strength to strength this season and are the leaders of the Liga Adelante with 78 points, with their return to the Liga BBVA looking like a case of when rather than if. Their rise to the top of the league has been built on the prowess of their strikers, whose goals look set to return the Seville club to Spain’s top tier. With two Betis players featuring in the top five scorers in the Liga Adelante, we can safely say that Betis are dominating the scoring table as well as the league table.

In fact, Betis’ two strikers were the only players in the top five to get on the scoresheet this week. The Benito Villamarín witnessed a 5-1 demolition by the hosts of CD Lugo on the weekend, with Rubén Castro scoring twice and Jorge Molina also finding the net. Castro has now scored 28 goals this season, while Molina is the fifth hit man in the league, with 17 goals.

But neither Borja Bastón, David Rodríguez nor Sergio Araujo could find the net this weekend. R. Zaragoza drew 1-1 away from home in a game where Diego Rico, Bastón’s team-mate, scored the Aragón side’s only goal. Rodríguez’s AD Alcorcón picked up the same result at CD Tenerife, with Alberto Gómez ‘Nagore’ scoring the visitors’ only goal. And Sergio Araujo was unable to play for UD Las Palmas this weekend due to suspension.

Rubén Castro remains top scorer in the Liga Adelante on 28 goals, six ahead of Borja Bastón. David Rodríguez and Araujo share third place with 18 goals each, one ahead of Jorge Molina. The one player closing in on the top five is Urko Vera, who scored in CD Mirandes’ 3-2 defeat to FC Barcelona B, moving on to 16 goals for the season.
