Barcelona looking for their eighth Champions League final place

The Catalans go into the tie with a 3-0 aggregate lead for the second leg in Munich against a Bayern side that have won all their Champions League ties at home this season.

After recording a positive result in the first leg, which saw FC Barcelona down FC Bayern München 3-0, the Catalan outfit will be full of confidence as they look to claim their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the eighth time.

Luis Enrique’s men are in the fight for Europe’s premier competition, and have won four games away from home in the Champions League this season. This will be put to the test against Bayern, who have won all of their games in Europe at the Allianz Arena this season. Also, the Spanish outfit have never won in Munich, and will be looking to end their run of bad luck there.

History favours Barcelona. They have won 37 of the 39 games in which they have played away from home after recording a positive result in the first leg. The biggest advantage held by Barça that has been overturned was a 2-0 lead that Manchester United came back from in the 1983/84 UEFA Cup Winners Cup.

Barcelona are in fine form. They have won 17 of their last 18 games. The only side to have got anything from Luis Enrique’s men was Sevilla FC, who drew 2-2 at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Neymar is particularly impressing at the moment. The Brazilian forward is ending the season well, and proof of such is that he has found the back of the net in his last six games. Along with him in the forward line will be Leo Messi, who was the side’s last scorer in Germany: in a culé victory (1-3) over Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 in the 2011/12 season.

Tonight’s game could also see history for Xavi Hernández. If the man from Terrassa plays, he will become the first player to make it to 150 UEFA Champions League appearances. He is closely followed by Iker Casillas, who has 149.

It will also be a special game for Marc-André Ter Stegen. The German goalkeeper will return to his home country for the first time since joining Barcelona. Also, he knows what it takes to keep a clean sheet at the Allianz, having achieved that in the 2011/12 Bundesliga season.
