Juventus 3-0 FC Barcelona
Barcelona were left with a mountain to climb in their Champions League quarter-final second leg after losing 3-0 in Turin. The impressive Paolo Dybala fired the Italians ahead in the seventh minute after receiving a pass in the area from Juan Cuadrado. The forward spun and curled a shot beyond Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Barça were thrown onto the back foot. Gianluigi Buffon saved from Andres Iniesta after a wonderful pass from Messi in the 20th, but almost immediately Juve doubled their lead. The ball broke down the other end and Dybala rifled a low shot into the corner on a counter-attack.
Barcelona had their chances but the Italians, who are now 22 games unbeaten in UEFA competitions at their Juventus stadium, always looked dangerous at set pieces. In the 55th minute, Giorgio Chiellini rose above Javier Mascherano to head the third in off the post at a corner. Messi was Barça’s most dangerous player and he slipped a ball in for Luis Suarez, but the Uruguayan’s shot was tipped around post. Despite late pressure on the Juventus goal in the closing stages, Barça failed to find a way past Buffon for a goal that would have given them a morale-boost for the return leg at the Camp Nou on Wednesday 19 April.
