Sunday's games on the 28th matchday of the Liga BBVA featured plenty of goals. Thirteen were scored on a day when FC Barcelona took the limelight. The azulgranas soundly beat CA Osasuna, an opponent that had made it difficult for Gerardo Martino's side in the away fixture, by 7-0. Lionel Messi made history in this match to become the Catalan team’s all-time top-scorer (371) after overtaking Paulino Alcántara (369).

The other protagonist of the day was Kevin Gameiro and Iván Rakitić's Sevilla, who also came away with three points after beating Real Valladolid CF 4-1 thanks to a brace from the French forward and another goal from the Croatian midfielder. Diogo Figueiras rounded off Sevilla's performance with their fourth goal, while Javi Guerra bagged one for the pucelanos. The win keeps alive Sevilla's hopes of qualifying for European competitions at the end of the season.

In the first match of the Sunday, Elche CF and Real Betis Balompié drew 0-0, a result that did not satisfy either team. Meanwhile, the Real Sociedad de Fútbol pushed Valencia CF out of contention for Europe after beating them 1-0 in the final game of the matchday, a result that leaves the Basque team in fifth place in the table awaiting the outcome of Villarreal CF's game on the Monday.
