Bakambu's dream debut season

The Congolese striker has hit 10 Liga BBVA goals so far this term, making him the division's joint-highest scoring newbie alongside Sanabria. In his rookie season, the Villarreal hitman has built up quite a reputation for himself as a scorer of braces.

In recent years, Villarreal CF are a team that have become recognised for their free-flowing attacking brand of football, in a system which has seen their strikers become Liga BBVA stars. The club's recruitment policy has reaped its rewards time and time again, with attacking talent such as Diego Forlan, Nilmar, Giuseppe Rossi and Luciano Vietto all hitting the ground running in the early days of their Villarreal careers. History is once again repeating itself this season, with the club's Congolese summer signing, Cédric Bakambu enjoying a debut LaLiga season to be remembered.

The forward joined Villarreal last summer from Bursaspor, on the back of a 21-goal season with the Turkish outfit. Incidentally, his 2014/15 goals return matched the tally he had previously managed during a four-year spell with French side, Sochaux. Right since checking in at the Madrigal, the Congolese attacker has shown all the hallmarks of possessing the instincts of a natural goalscorer. Three goals in his first three Liga BBVA appearances were nothing more than an indication of what was to come.

Alongside R. Sporting's Tonny Sanabria, Bakambu is currently the Liga BBVA's most prolific newbie. The pair both have 10 LaLiga goals to their name, but Bakambu's feats don't stop there. The French-born striker is also producing the goods in Europe, having netted five times in the Europa League to make it 16 goals in all competitions for the 2015/16 season.

The interest thing in Bakambu's case is that his goals appear to come in twos. The forward has become very much a two-goal haul specialist after having claimed six braces so far this term. Bakambu has struck four doubles in the Liga BBVA, against RCD Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, R. Sporting and Sevilla FC, and a further two in the Europa League, when FC Dinamo Minsk and Bayer 04 Leverkusen found out the hard way just how deadly the 24-year-old is in front of goal.

Bakambu's has developed an excellent understanding with his strike partner Roberto Soldado. Indeed, the Spaniard has proved to be the perfect foil for his teammate in the Villarreal attack. Soldado finds himself amongst the league's top assist-providers this term after having laid on eight goals, five of which Bakambu has profited from.

The African's goalscoring achievements are helping to erase the memories of Luciano Vietto's superb season last time out, which saw the Argentine score 20 times in all competitions. Bakambu currently has 16 goals to his name and he could very well improve on his tally between now and the end of the season. Next up for the Yellow Submarine and Bakambu it's FC Barcelona and the Congolese goal-getter is readying himself to fire his side to victory.
