Atlético and Athletic continue to take points

All square in the game between Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club in the game corresponding to matchday 35 of the Liga BBVA. Raúl García and Mikel San José had chances to score for their sides but ultimately the game ended 0-0.

Athletic were the first side to create danger through Mikel San José, the player from Navarro got his head to a corner and the ball just went wide. For the home side, it was Raúl Garcia who was the first to have an attempt on goal with a long-range shoot that grazed the left post. The battle in midfield prevented a fluid game and, consequently, dangerous attacks. Atlético then had another opportunity from a dead-ball situation. 40 minutes had passed when Raúl García headed a corner that was caught by Iago Herrerín.

The best chance for the Bilbao side was had by Kike Sola in in the 55th minute but the forward did not manage to connect with the ball following a shot from San José. In the 72’ minute the home side had their clearest chance of the second half. It started with a run down the left wing by Guilherme Siqueira.  The Brazilian crossed to the far post where Antoine Griezmann was positioned but Herrerín did really well to prevent him opening the scoring. In added time, João Miranda had another chance but his shot went wide. The point means that Diego Pablo Simeone’s men are third on 76 points. In turn, Athletic  are in 7th for the moment on 48 points.
