Villarreal CF travel to take on Athletic Club on the last day of the Liga BBVA season. A victory would see the Basques hold onto seventh place, which would secure them a spot in next year's UEFA Europa League. On the other hand, Villarreal will be looking to string their third straight win together and close out the season on a high note.
Team news
The Bilbao outfit will be without Iker Muniaín for this match, although Marcelino García will have to contend with a much longer list of absentees ahead of this encounter: Luciano Vietto and Giovani Dos Santos are both suspended, while Sergio Asenjo, Tomás Pina, Mateo Musacchio, Ikechukwu Uche, Denis Cheryshev and Adrián Marín are all carrying injuries.
Views from the dugouts
The home side's manager, Marcelino García Toral, pointed out that "despite missing a lot of players", his team will be going out to win and he will be calling up "a number of academy players to make up the squad numbers". Meanwhile, the Athletic coach, Ernesto Valverde, stated that "the goals set out at the beginning of the season have been accomplished" and now the Basques will be fighting to qualify for Europe.
