Real Sociedad de Fútbol beat Elche CF 4-0 in the game that closed out matchday 21 of the Liga BBVA. The result means that Jagoba Arrasate's men secure their sixth place spot in the table while Elche move closer to the relegation zone.
The start of the match was an intense affair and the fans in the Anoeta had barely settled into their seats when Damián Suárez opened the scoring with the help of Antoine Griezmann. Elche, caught off-guard by the early goal, had to respond and they began to search for Claudio Bravo's goal. Edu Albacar came close as his shot forced the Chilean shot-stopper to make a great save. However, Real were less easily fended off and a precise cross from Xabi Prieto found the head of Griezmann, whose finish across the goal doubled the txuri-urdin's lead.
Despite the scoreline, Elche refused to give up their goal hunt and start of the second half was as frantic as the first. The opposition's two-goal advantage was a poor reflection of the performance from Fran Escribá's men, whose lack of commitment in defence and bad luck in front of goal were giving Real the edge. The match was put to bed by Carlos Vela who found the top corner of Toño's goal. In the dying minutes, Griezmann finished off a cross from Imanol Agirretxe to put the final nail in Elche's coffin.
