Sevilla FC put themselves on course for the UEFA Europa League final with an important 3-0 win over ACF Fiorentina in the sides' semi-final first leg. The holders earned victory thanks to two goals from Aleix Vidal and a Kevin Gameiro strike 15 minutes from the end, sealing a magical night at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

The opening minutes of the clash were played in and around the visitors' area, with Sevilla carving out threatening attacks on keeper Neto's goal. However, with a quarter of an hour on the clock, Fiorentina created their first moment of danger only for Mario Gómez to shoot off target. And los hispalenses' opener arrived shortly afterwards, following a move between Vitolo Machín and Carlos Bacca that culminated in a low Vidal drive into the net. The Italians sought to react with an equaliser but, after great play from Joaquín Sánchez, Matías Fernández was unable to capitalise.

Sevilla were the dominant force in the second half, and after 51' Vidal was again on the scoresheet, netting from inside the box after Unai Emery's men had stolen possession in midfield. The hosts were in control at 2-0, and their superiority was further rewarded as substitute Gameiro added a third barely a minute after coming on. The Spanish side now face the second leg next Thursday at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with the aim of clinching their place in the final in Warsaw on 27 May.
