SD Eibar lost 0-1 to Valencia CF on matchday 16 of the Liga BBVA. For the Chés it meant two victories on the trot, strengthening their hold on fourth place in the table.Parity was the general tone of a first half in which the chances on goal were scarce.
Eibar stopped the visitors from playing through pressure and a well organised defence. Nuno Espírito Santo's men, meanwhile, tried to surprise the opposition with attacking moves and it paid off in the 31st minute of the encounter when they went ahead through a Pablo Alcácer goal.
Despite the 0-1 scoreline, the Basque side stuck to their game plan and Mikel Arrruabarrena came close to equalising, but goalkeeper Diego Alves stopped his shot, keeping Valencia in front going into half time.In the second half, Alcácer again had the best chance to score the Valencians' second.
After an excellent pass from Álvaro Negredo, the Valencian forward hit a volley that went very close to Xabi Irureta's goal. From then on, Nuno’s side closed up shop and kept the scoreline on 0-1 until the final whistle.
