A point spells salvation for Betis

Eibar take the initiative early on…

Jose Mendilibar's charges dominated the opening stages of the game. They had the lion's share of the possession, linking up well and probing down the flanks. They managed to create several shots on goal, but Antonio Adan came to his side's salvation in the 26th minute after a clearance from a corner.

Whilst the home team were on top at the start of the first half, it was all Betis towards the end. The visitors, led by Ruben Castro, covered more ground and took control of the ball. On 30 minutes, the Betis striker had the clearest opportunity so far for his team. However, Xabi Irureta, at full stretch, managed to push it behind for a corner.

He missed his first effort, but was ruthless with his next chance. On 36 minutes, Joaquin started the move from out wide, playing a give-and-go with Francisco Portillo and then delivering the killer pass for Ruben Castro to tap in from close range. It was his 18th goal in the Liga BBVA this season. Adan was called into action again before the first half was out. Mauro Dos Santos shot from point-blank range, and the keeper made a great save to deny him the equaliser. And it wouldn't be the first time.

Eibar launch an onslaught

Eibar stepped it up a gear when they headed out after the break, and Mendilibar brought on Sergi Enrich. They produced three clear goalscoring chances in 15 minutes, but Adan was once again on song to deny the home side. Borja Baston and David Junca had the first two. Moments later, Keko fired the ball goal-bound, but Adan's cat-like reflexes kept Eibar at bay again.

Enrich, the super-sub

Enrich's entrance really stirred things up. Eibar persisted with their onslaught on Adan's goal and Betis were suffering. The equaliser came twenty-seven minutes into the second half. Ander Capa sent a long ball into the area and Enrich got the faintest of touches to direct it inside the post and level the scores. The draw gives Betis a much-needed point and guarantees that they will avoid the drop.
