RC Celta were able to finish the season with a 3-2 comeback victory over RCD Espanyol at the Estadio de Balaídos in matchday 38 of Liga BBVA. The side from Vigo finish the season with 51 points in eighth, while the visitors end 10th with 49.
The game started out evenly. The first chance came to Santi Mina, however Kiko Casilla kept out his one on one. Celta then started to look stronger, and Fabián Orellana might have put his side ahead. Everything changed when Sergio Álvarez brought down Sergio García and saw red. The Espanyol skipper scored the subsequent penalty to put his side ahead. Despite this, Celta pushed on, and managed to make it 1-1 as Hugo Mallo latched onto a Casilla parry to level things up before half time at Balaídos.
The restart was frenetic. Christian Stuani made it 1-2 with a lob shortly after, however minutes later Gustavo Cabral drew his side level again. The game was intense and there were a number of chances for both sides. Despite being a man down, Celta had the better opportunities and were more incisive. A counter attack spearheaded by Orellana after 76 minutes saw Manuel Agudo 'Nolito' score the decisive goal to make it 3-2 to the home side.
