Even before Getafe CF take on Valencia CF in the final match of this round of Liga BBVA, it is clear that Spanish football's effectiveness and power is in a good place. This weekend has been a prolific goalscoring period; one of the highest scoring in memory.

In which, two games stand out above all others. They will go down in history and gave joy to thousands of fans at the stadium in Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante.

The first of them was the tie between RC Deportivo de La Coruña and Real Madrid CF, which finished a remarkable 2-8. A result which will be remembered as the second highest ever in Liga BBVA at the Estadio Riazor, after the 11 scored on 5 November 1950 in the game between the Galician side and Lleida.

Lethal attacking records

Saturday's game was a special one for Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored three times and broke a personal record. The Portuguese forward, who had scored six times against the home side before, had never scored at the Riazor, and with his first goal of the afternoon, the club celebrated their 7000th goal in national competitions. Also, with his hat trick, Ronaldo equalled Leo Messi as the player with the highest number of triples away from home, with seven.

Gareth Bale, who racked up his 100th goal as a professional, James Rodríguez and Javier 'Chirarito' Hernández also joined the party. The Mexican got his first goal in Liga BBVA, as did Depor forward José Verdú 'Toché'.

Carlo Ancelotti's side scored eight goals, a number that they had never reached away from home in their 113 years of history. It was also the second time that a Real Madrid match has ended with ten goals; the first came in a clash with FC Barcelona that ended five-all.

Step by step success

The Azulgranas also confirmed themselves as one of the hot favourites for the league title after their five goals sunk Levante UD in their home ground. It was a demonstration of the hunger of Luis Enrique's men, who as well has having a one hundred per cent record this season, can boast a sweep of clean sheets.

Another side from the top division of Spanish football to have made history is Granada CF. The Andalusian outfit are the first team to go to the new San Mamés and keep a clean sheet, as Joaquín Caparrós’s men ended Athletic Club's goalscoring run of 20 games at home in Liga BBVA.

Liga Adelante's sides have not been left behind in this goalscoring weekend. Sergio Araujo carries on scoring in every game he plays, having racked up seven in five games, breaking the record for the best goalscoring start of a UD Las Palmas player.

Osasuna make history

If one game stood out from the rest, it was CA Osasuna - RCD Mallorca. In the 51st minute the match was 1-1, and nine minutes later the scoreboard read 4-3. The final score of 6-4 gave fans flashbacks to November 1990, which was the last time the side from Navarre scored six in a competitive game. Their victim then was Club Siero in the Copa del Rey.

In the matches in the Riazor and the Sadar, a total of 20 goals were scored, almost as many as were scored in the entirety of Liga BBVA matchday 3, when the net was found 24 times. You have to go back as far as 1952 to find a weekend on which ten goals were scored in each of two matches in the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante.
