The Liga Adelante is into its final stretch and practically all of the sides are playing their final hand with the aim of attaining the targets set at the beginning of the season. As such, automatic promotion, sixth place in order to play in the promotion play-offs and survival, are the most urgent goals with five games remaining until the end of the season.

Girona FC and R. Sporting keep up the fight for second place

The Catalan side and the Asturian team both won their respective games to keep alive their duel for automatic promotion to the Liga BBVA. Pablo Machín’s men won 2-4 against Barcelona B and are in unstoppable form after their fourth consecutive win in the competition. So, with twelve points from the last four games, the rojiblancos are in second place and have not lost track of the leaders, Real Betis, who have a four point advantage.

The side from Gijon also kept up their positive win. After getting a 1-2 away win to Lugo with two goals from  Miguel Ángel Guerrero, Sporting notched up their tenth consecutive game unbeaten, with a total of four wins and six draws. Abelardo Fernández’ men are in third, just two points off direct promotion, which means everything is yet to be decided at the top of the table.

Zaragoza move into sixth place

If there is one objective this season in Liga Adelante, it is sixth place. With the top five looking to fight for direct promotion, the final place allows that you to play for a place in the top division is being hotly contested.

Girona and Sporting look to be the two sides fighting it out for second in Liga Adelante

It looks as if Zaragoza have taken the initiative, following their 3-1 win over Albacete, the side from Aragon are three points ahead of the side in seventh, Ponferradina, who they also have a better goal average than. Ranko Popović’s side will spend at least another week towards the top of the table.

At. Osasuna and R. Racing C., two big sides who are looking to avoid relegation

On the other hand, the bottom of the table is still tight. While the bottom three positions look sorted, there are four sides fighting it out not to finish 19th, a position that would also see them relegated. Therefore with the business end of Liga Adelante upon us, nobody wants to drop down a division and they are battling it out to make sure it is not them.

In amongst these sides, Osasuna and Racing won their direct ties and they are moving closer to salvation. Enrique Martín’s side downed Mirandés 2-0 and moved ahead of CE Sabadell, who were unable to pick up any points against Alcorcón. Racing, meanwhile, also picked up three points after downing CD Tenerife 1-0 and remain only a point from safety.  There are exiting and nervous times ahead as Liga Adelante reaches a climax.
