A case of winning and hoping

El Molinón will be one of the grounds where there's plenty to play for on the final matchday of the season. Abelardo's men must win, whilst hoping that Getafe don't prevail over Betis.

SÁB 14.05.2016

Team News:

- Real Sporting: Dani Ndi, Alex Menendez and Bernardo (all injured)

- Villarreal CF: Jaume Costa (injured)

Match Facts:

Real Sporting (18th, 54 pts):

- The hosts have to win, it's as simple as that. The Sporting players are well aware that they have to overcome Villarreal CF to have any chance of staying up. Whilst having to do their part of the bargain, the Rojiblancos are sure to have one eye on Real Betis v Getafe CF, where if things end all square, it would be enough to seal the Asturians' Liga BBVA survival, as long as they manage to beat Marcelino's troops.

- Sporting will be looking to maintain the momentum gained over recent matchdays, in which fight, guts and belief have been at the heart of the Gijon outfit's performances. These qualities have seen the hosts pick up positive results over their last eight games. In six of these, Sporting have put points on the board, courtesy of three wins and three draws, whilst this sequence has also included two defeats.

Villarreal CF (4th, 30 pts):

- Marcelino's charges will be looking to round off an excellent season with a win. Claiming all three points would be an ideal way to sign off a memorable campaign in which the Yellow Submarine have qualified for the Champions League and performed excellently in both the Liga BBVA and the Europa League.

- Villarreal's top scorer, Cedric Bakambu, will have fond memories of the reverse fixture. Back on Matchday 19, Villarreal saw off Sporting at El Madrigal courtesy of a brace from the Frenchman. Twelve-goal Bakambu, who has been one of the sensations this season in LaLiga, will be looking to add to his tally here.

What's on Gijon this weekend?
