Universidad Catolica de Murcia CF have made history and will continue to do so next season, but now in the Liga Adelante, as they take on the challenge of competing in the division for the first time. UCAM Murcia are officially a Liga Adelante team, after beating Real Madrid Castilla in a hard-fought and thrilling playoff, which finished 2-1 in the first leg and 2-2 in the second leg played at the Alfredo di Stefano stadium.

The Murcian outfit have produced football of an extremely high calibre this year and the goalscorers Ivan Aguilar and Pablo Pallares and the utility player Juan Gongora made fundamental contributions towards the side finishing top of Group 4 of Segunda Division B (Spanish football's third tier) on 77 points, with 22 wins from 38 games played.

Following 41 official games this season, the manager, Jose Maria Salmeron, and his players are now celebrating the joys of promotion, a monumental achievement for a club which has only existed for 17 years, following its creation in 1999. The university assumed ownership in 2011 and the outfit has progressed at a phenomenal rate since then. After gaining promotion to the Tercera Division (the Spanish fourth tier) in their opening season, they have now finished as group champions for two years running, losing out in the promotion playoffs against Athletic B last season. This time around, they came out on top and a place in the Liga Adelante is their reward.
